Running a wiki

Starting one

Choose Start a wiki. You'll pick a name, an address, a starting kit and a look. New wikis are reviewed by hand for now, and you'll get an email with the answer. A wiki's address can't be changed later.

Details and navigation

Wiki settings covers your wiki's name, short name, tagline and footer notice. It's also where you add, rename, reorder and remove the nav links, and choose whether Tools, Recent changes and Images appear in the nav.

Staff

Owners choose the staff and how the wiki looks. Moderators review edits, handle reports and can block people. Both are managed on the wiki's Staff page, which also has a log of what staff have done.

How it looks

Owners can choose a preset, colours and fonts under Appearance, and upload a logo, banner and favicon. Colours that would be hard to read are refused.

Updates

If your wiki covers something that changes, such as a game, list each patch on the Updates page. Pages can then say they've been checked with verifiedFor, and pages that haven't been checked since the latest update appear on a list for editors.

Bringing an existing wiki

Owners can import a MediaWiki dump or Markdown files from the Staff page, including full edit history. Templates and images don't come across. Existing pages are never overwritten.

When something goes wrong

Moderators can hide a post or profile, hide an old version of a page, delete a page and restore it later. See Reporting content for anything more serious.
